March 2017

We didn't have much snow, this year, and you'd think we'd be relieved, but the lack of snow made the brown grass and bare leaves seem downright depressing. Every year, the cold winter months create a heavy cloud of sadness over the city and most of the people you talk to are "more than ready for summer".

It was still cold, one morning, when I took Benson out to pee, but the air had less bite than normal. Compared to the usual chill I'd get waiting for Benson to finish, I felt a relatively warmth. It felt gentle and reassuring. It was at that moment I heard something I hadn't heard for months. Birds were singing in the expanse of field beside our building.

It was the first day of spring.
